Teatteri Mukamas: The magic of puppet theatre!

Teatteri Mukamas is a Tampere-based professional puppet theatre, founded in 1979, whose performances provide shared experiences for children and adults. Their performances combine puppets, actors, objects, shadows, live music, and modern puppet theatre techniques in an inventive fashion.

The theatre’s idyllic home stage is located in Pispala, Tampere, in an old volunteer fire brigade building. They perform about 250 shows for a total amount of about 25 000 spectators a year. 25 000. In addition to performing on our home stage, the theatre visits daycare centres, schools, libraries, festivals and corporate events all over Finland.

International artistic cooperation is a part of Teatteri Mukamas’ activities. Over the years, they have had visiting directors from the Czech Republic, Sweden, France, and Russia. The theatre has also performed by invitation at festivals in Europe and Asia. The theatre organises the MUKAMAS – International Puppet Theatre Festival in Tampere biannually.

Teatteri Mukamas permanently employs 10 people as well as some freelancers. Mansi Stycz has served as the theatre manager since its founding. In 2003, she was recognised with the Children’s Culture State Award for her many years of promoting children’s culture.
