Teatteri Mukamas’s new autumn production Hiirulainen ja talvi premieres on Friday, October 23rd, at the theatre’s home stage in Pispala. The show is written and directed by Katarina Stycz, with playful choreography by Ringa Aarimo that runs throughout the performance. In addition to puppet theatre, the show incorporates elements of dance and circus arts.
The performance is part of Teatteri Mukamas’s beloved Hiirulainen (Little Mouse) series. Designed by Emma Hanikka, Hiirulainen puppet has become a trademark of the theatre and a favorite among many children. Joining Hiirulainen on stage are Raisa Kekarainen, Minna Koponen and Liina Saarva. Jana Bačová-Kroftová, who created the atmospheric set design, drew inspiration from the beautiful surroundings of Pispala. Juha Kaijomaa has designed the lighting of the show.
Snow and imagination are all you need for winter fun
Hiirulainen ja talvi offers inspiration as we await the winter season. The story begins when three friends arrive at their grandmother’s house and start looking for warm winter clothes. What a treasure trove of stored items they discover! And where will Hiirulainen turn up this time? So begins a hilarious adventure into the wonders of winter—though, naturally, things don’t always go quite as planned.
With her performance, Katarina Stycz wants to remind us of all the elements that make up winter:
“How nature changes. The crisp chill, beautiful snowflakes, the scent of frost, the crunch of snow underfoot, and the magic of the Northern Lights. How do we get moving in different ways, and what kinds of games does the arrival of snow make possible? We can build snowmen, go skiing, and go ice skating.”
The performance Hiirulainen ja talvi also emphasizes the importance of small things and imagination. You can conjure up winter even indoors! “At the heart of it all is being together and doing things together. And I hope the performance inspires children to get outside, move, and play!”
Welcome to the theatre!
